Dashboard Metadata
Overview
Dashboard metadata includes key details such as:
- Title and description
- Creator and creation date
- Last modified details (date and user)
- Lock status
Title
When you create a new dashboard, it is named New Dashboard by default. To rename it, click on the title and enter a new name.
Naming a saved dashboard allows you to locate it within the left-hand folder system.
General details
A tooltip next to the dashboard title displays information about the creator and the creation time. When a dashboard is modified and saved, the tooltip updates to show the last modification date and the user responsible for the changes.
A dashboard can be created or modified by a user, an external API, or a Terraform operation. If a team-level API key was used, the API key name will be stated as the creator or modifier name, respectively.
Description
A dashboard description helps users understand its purpose and the insights it provides.
To add a description:
- Click the ellipsis (⋮) on the right-hand side.
- Select Add description.
- Enter your text and click Save.
To edit a description:
- Click the ellipsis (⋮) and select Edit description.
- Update the text and click Save.
Locking a dashboard
Locking a dashboard prevents unauthorized modifications while preserving its current state.
How to lock a dashboard
- Click the ellipsis (⋮) on the right-hand side.
- Select Lock dashboard.
- A padlock icon will appear next to the title. Hover over it to view locking details.
How to unlock a dashboard

Locking rules & permissions
-
Users must have the TEAM-DASHBOARDS:UPDATE permission to lock a dashboard.
-
If you created the dashboard, only you can lock it—preventing edits from others.
-
For older dashboards without an assigned creator, any team member can lock them.
-
Once locked, the system records the user responsible for the action in the metadata.
-
If you need to edit a locked dashboard, you can create a duplicate by selecting Save as from the ellipsis menu.
This ensures dashboards remain secure while allowing flexibility when updates are necessary.
