Investigate with the Trace Drilldown

When you select a trace or span in Explore Tracing, the Trace Drilldown opens alongside the list view. Use it to validate your findings and gather context without leaving Explore Tracing.

The Trace Drilldown has three main areas:

  • Visualize Spans and Traces — Visualize the selected trace as a Gantt Chart, Flame Graph, or Service Dependency View. Switch between views to understand execution structure, timing, and service interactions. Learn more

  • Span Fields and Attributes — The Info Panel displays fields, tags, and metadata for the selected span or trace. Use the built-in span duration distribution heatmap to compare the span's performance against similar spans in the same time range. Learn more

  • Span Related Data — Surface correlated telemetry for the selected span or trace, including logs, infrastructure context, profiling data, events, and AI insights. Learn more

Headers and Quick Actions appear at the top of the Trace Drilldown and surface key context at a glance—service, operation, status, duration, and percentile. Use header menus to pivot to correlated logs, APM service context, or profiles, or to refine your active query. Learn more
