# Olly dashboard watch

Dashboards are where teams look to check system health, but keeping an eye on them is manual, and traditional alerts often add noise without telling you what actually changed or why. With **Olly dashboard watch**, you hand a custom dashboard to Olly and it watches the dashboard for you: it monitors the dashboard on a schedule, investigates what it sees, and sends you a short narrative report that explains what changed, the likely cause, and where to drill in.

Dashboard watch is the first **Olly Watch** experience. You start it from the dashboard itself, tell Olly what matters in a short chat, and Olly takes over from there.

## What you need[​](#what-you-need "Direct link to What you need")

* Olly turned on for your team. See [Enable Olly](https://coralogix.com/docs/user-guides/olly/enable.md).
* A [custom dashboard](https://coralogix.com/docs/user-guides/custom-dashboards/introduction.md) to watch.
* Each watch belongs to the user who created it. Other team members don't see or manage your watches.

## Start a watch[​](#start-a-watch "Direct link to Start a watch")

You start a watch from the dashboard you want Olly to monitor.

1. Open the custom dashboard.
2. In the top right of the dashboard, select **Olly AI** to open the Olly drawer.
3. Under **Actions Olly can take**, select **Watch this dashboard**. Olly greets you and begins setting up the watch.

The first time you open a dashboard that Olly can watch, a hint appears next to the **Olly AI** button: **Olly can watch this dashboard**. Select **Show me** to open the drawer, or **Not now** to dismiss it.

**Actions Olly can take** also offers **Build an alert**, which asks Olly to create an alert that fires when something unusual happens on the dashboard. Use it when you want to page someone the moment a threshold breaks, rather than a scheduled report on what changed. Once a watch exists, a **Watching** badge appears beside the dashboard's name. Select it to open the [watch panel](#from-the-dashboard).

## Tell Olly what to watch[​](#tell-olly-what-to-watch "Direct link to Tell Olly what to watch")

Setting up a watch is a short conversation; you don't write a scheduled prompt yourself. Olly looks at the dashboard and asks you three things:

* **What to monitor**: describe what matters on this dashboard, such as error spikes on a specific widget or a daily status summary. If you're not sure, ask Olly to investigate the dashboard and suggest what's worth watching.
* **When to check**: how often Olly should look at the dashboard, and when to start.
* **Where to send the results**: whether each run's report should be delivered as well as stored on the watch. Destinations are Notification Center connectors, and a scheduled task can send to email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams. You can add detail in the conversation (a threshold, a widget to focus on, the kind of report you want), but nothing more than the dashboard and a schedule is required. When Olly has enough to go on, it drafts the watch, shows it to you for approval, and adjusts it if you ask. After you approve, Olly confirms that the dashboard is now being watched and gives you a link to manage it.

## What Olly does with a watch[​](#what-olly-does-with-a-watch "Direct link to What Olly does with a watch")

Once a watch is active, Olly:

* **Monitors on your schedule**: it scans the dashboard at the cadence you set, without you having to open it.
* **Investigates what it finds**: on each run Olly analyzes the dashboard rather than comparing a single value against a threshold, so the report tells you what changed and why.
* **Reports every run**: each run produces its own chat and a narrative report that summarizes what changed, explains the likely cause, and points to where to drill in. Like any other [scheduled task](https://coralogix.com/docs/user-guides/olly/scheduled-tasks.md), the results go out through the Notification Center, so you can have them delivered by email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams.

## Manage your watches[​](#manage-your-watches "Direct link to Manage your watches")

Each watch runs as a [scheduled task](https://coralogix.com/docs/user-guides/olly/scheduled-tasks.md). Manage it from the dashboard it watches, or from the Scheduled tasks page.

### From the dashboard[​](#from-the-dashboard "Direct link to From the dashboard")

A watched dashboard carries a status badge beside its name. The badge appears only once a watch exists, and it tells you whether the watch can run:

| Badge                  | What it means                                                                                           |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Watching**           | The watch is running on its schedule.                                                                   |
| **Paused**             | The watch is set up but paused.                                                                         |
| **Out of AI units**    | The watch keeps its schedule but can't run until your team has AI units again.                          |
| **AI consent off**     | Your team turned AI off. The watch keeps its schedule but can't run until AI consent is turned back on. |
| **Permission removed** | The watch lost a permission it needs. A team administrator can restore it.                              |

Select a **Watching** or **Paused** badge to open the watch panel. It shows when the next run is due and lists the watch's recent scans. Select a scan to open its chat and read the report. Before the first run, the panel says **No runs yet** and tells you when that run is due.

The other three badges open an explanation instead of the panel. Hover over the badge to see what's blocking the watch, and, where there's something you can do about it, a way to act on it: **Open AI settings** for a team that turned AI off, and **View plan** for a team that's out of AI units.

From the panel you can also:

* **Pause and resume**: use the toggle in the panel header.
* **Manage Schedule**: open the watch on the Scheduled tasks page to change what it monitors or how often it runs.
* **Delete configuration**: remove the watch. Coralogix asks you to confirm, because this permanently deletes the dashboard's scheduled task. Chats from past scans stay in your history.

To see all of your watches in one place, in Coralogix select **Olly AI** in the navigation bar, then **Scheduled tasks**, and open the **Dashboard watch** tab. Your watches live here, separate from your other scheduled tasks. To watch another dashboard from this tab, select **Add dashboard to watch** and choose a dashboard.

Each watch shows the name of the dashboard it watches, both in the list and on the watch's own page. Select the name to open that dashboard.

Open a watch to review its prompt, schedule, and run history, or to change it:

* **Edit**: change what Olly monitors, how often it runs, or the email, Slack, and Microsoft Teams destinations its reports go to.
* **Pause and resume**: temporarily stop a watch, then turn it back on when you want it to continue.
* **Run now**: have Olly scan the dashboard immediately, outside its schedule.
* **Delete**: remove a watch you no longer need. Chats from past scans stay in your history.

## Limits[​](#limits "Direct link to Limits")

* Each dashboard can have one watch.
* A watch counts toward your [scheduled task limit](https://coralogix.com/docs/user-guides/olly/scheduled-tasks.md#limits).
* A watch is private to the user who created it.
* Each watch run consumes AI units, like any other Olly activity. If your team runs out of AI units, watches stop running until more units are available. See [Usage Management](https://coralogix.com/docs/user-guides/olly/usage-management.md).
